ICC postpones Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 News by SmartCric


2020 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was postponed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic spreading across the world.

Unfortunately, ICC had no choice but to cancel the competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic that saw cricketing events around the world came to a halt earlier this season. Apex committee held regular meetings in order to discuss options and came out with a decision to cancel the competition on Monday.

The possibility of staging the showpiece event in Australia looked bleak due to rising coronavirus cases across the globe. International Cricket Council has shifted the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup from February-March to October-November.

Due to the meeting of the IBC Board, which is a commercial subsidiary of ICC, schedules for the next ICC Cricket tournaments were agreed upon and finalized.

The windows for the Men’s events are:

– ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will be held in October-November 2021, the finals will be played on 14th November 2021.

– ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be held in October-November 2022, with the final on 13th November 2022

– ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be held in India in October-November 2023, with the final to be played on 26th November 2022.

IBC, which is a subsidiary of ICC, agreed to postpone Men’s T20 World Cup due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation. The committee has issued that information was taken into account and a final decision was made in order to stage successfully showpiece events in 2021 and 2022 in the bio-secure environment.

International Cricket Council said in a press release that the IBC board will also continue the monitor the existing situation with regards to staging the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021. In this period, planning for the event will continue as mentioned in the schedule.

ICC Chief Executive, Manu Sawhney said that the committee has taken comprehensive and various contingency plans to make the tournaments are staged in a bio-secure environment.  The number one agenda for ICC is to be protected and safeguard the health of everyone involved in the game of cricket.
